I've just taken delivery of my new Magimix 5200 food processor. It's gorgeous:)
It's a big beast and the instruction book says it will knead up to 1.3kg of bread dough. I put in 900g (2lb) and it didn't like it one bit. As I added the liquid to the dry ingredients the noise changed from a low hum to a noise like a plane taking off and started bucking about over the work top:eek: . It calmed down as the dough came together but then the motor cut out (safety mechanism). I pulled the dough out and it seemed well-kneaded so it's rising now.
The machine cooled down and I've grated cheese in it and it's been fine.
Does anyone else use a food processor for kneading dough and if so what quantities and how do you do it -mix in the machine and add liquids then knead, or mix in a bowl and put in the machine to knead ?
Any advice gratefully received;)

I prefer to make dough by hand and I've taken your advice and made this bread roll dough by hand
Only took 4 minutes, hands rather than a mixer bowl to wash, and it's rising beautifully :j

Yes, it doesn't take long to make a batch of bread, but I've spent a bit of money on this machine so I want to get the most out of it
. I shall be making my weekly 4 loaf batch by hand still but pizzas, sweet breads and rolls would save me time in the food processor. I've just taken my processed batch of rolls out of the oven and they look absolutely fine (made using the recipe you quoted Penny). The dough took about 1 min to mix and knead.

Surely someone has some experience of this ?
The rolls were fine btw but I don't want the machine to be jumping about again -any ideas ?0 -
I have the Magimix 4200 and make bread every weekend in it. It does move about a bit and sound like it is going to take off but it's not that bad.
Are you putting enough water in though? It shouldn't cut out when kneading bread, it has only done that to me once when I expected it to mix a paritcularly heavy cake mix.
I use the following recipe:-
700g flour
1 tsp sugar
2 tsp salt
1 tsp fast yeast
450 ml water0 -
I've just treated myself to a new toy.
I usually make my bread by hand but I think I'm going to give it a try using the food processor. Do many people use it for dough? If so, how long do I need to knead it using the processor?
What do you use your food processor for the most?Loved our trip to the West Coast USA. Death Valley is the place to go!0 -
