Retirement State Pension

Hi
My parents are approaching retirement and both have enough contributions for a full state pension.
But is it reduced because they are a couple?
I know my mums pension will be about £90, and my dad has full contributions too, so will he also get £90 too?
Thanks

If they both qualified for their own pensions in their own right then they will get their own pensions. The amounts will depend on NI contributions cover SERPS, S2P and graduated pensions. £90 suggests virtually no qualification for those.
Has your father not had a letter indicating what his pension is likely to be?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. He has a company pension, so I assume he won't qualify for pension credit?
But he has some savings, will he qualify for some other benefit?0 -
With a company pension and a State pension I would not have thought he would qualify for any benefits other than stuff like bus pass, free prescriptions, that all over 60s get. Are they getting their winter fuel allowance? You get that as long as one of them is over 60.
If they have any Graduated contributions, SERPS etc, they will get additional State Pension.0 -
yeah they are getting a winter fuel allowance, thanks0

Tell both of them to contact www.thepensionservice.gov.uk and ask for a forecast of their state pension(s).They need to fill in a request form.
Depending on their age they may have to wait until October when the computers will be back up after adjusting for the new rules.Trying to keep it simple...0 -
