So I thought it only right that I come and say hello.
I have my date booked on Tuesday in local court, forms all but filled out and fee's are together.
a little history if I may,
Married, 2 small kids and 20K in debt on Credit Cards, for months I had my head well and truly buried in the sand, the bin was positioned under the letterbox and life was good. (Well in my head it was all fine:o)
It dawned on me one day that I should probably get my act together so I contacted CCCS and had a phone consultation their advice was bankruptcy.
I did my speciality and resumed my head in sand position convincing myself that a lottery win was round the next corner and all would be fine, until about a fortnight ago when a sad realisation hit home that as the father of 2 small children and the supposed bread winner in our household I had failed miserably and our situation was getting progressively worse not better.
So backside well and truly kicked I called my local court and mad an appointment for 2 weeks time. The two weeks is almost up now (9.15 Tuesday) and I feel a little apprehensive, I just want it to be Wednesday already so it will be over.
Although this is my first post, the posts on this forum have been fantastic in reassuring my wife and I that I am doing the right thing.
So a big hello and thank you :rotfl:

Hi dadof2 and welcome.
I haven't been in your position (yet!) but fully sympathise. Lots of peeps on here have posted after court and said it's not nearly as bad as you dread-some didn't even get to see the judge or magistrate.
Forget the past (except to learn from it) and look forward to a future where your bin can return to a more 'normal' place in the house!Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!0 -
Hi Dadof2,
Just wanted to say welcome to the boards.
I went bankrupt on the 2nd of June and had a lot of head in the sand moments leading up to that too!!! Glad the posts on here have made you realise that you are indeed doing the right thing for you. It's a funny old beast for me so far but I do feel a lot better knowing that I don't owe anyone any money and that I have to live within my means- I find it easier as I had an IVA before this too so I haven't had credit cards for ages:o
It took me over a year to decide to go br and my lightbulb moment was when a bailiff came a knocking!!!
Good luck for Tuesday and let us know how you get on.
Take care,

Hiya!
Just saying hi, and looks like we'll be in court at the same time lol. I'm booked in for this Tuesday too at 9.30.
I've just finished filling in mine and my husbands BR forms online and they are submitted and printed and i'm DELIGHTED! AT LAST! I got there in the end lol
I can't wait till it's over with either, especially after years of struggling to pay the bills and facing the letters and phonecalls I'm starting to think this nightmare could be finally over (with a bit of luck)!
All the best for tuesday, and good luck
Me before I found this forum
And me after going through BR with everyone's help :j0 -
Good luck dad of 2 and Marste - it'll be fine, everyone nice and helpful, and we've all had the head in the sand - takes a while to see things differently, and I for one, never thought this could ever happen, something would come along etc.

Welcome.
Just a few words. Do not expect to feel instant relief when you walk out of court. After years of struggling it takes the brain a while to re-adjust;) . You seem to be doing really well so all i can add to the other posts is good luck for tomorrow.DFree impartial debt advice available from: National Debtline - Tel: 0808 808 4000 | The Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) - Tel: 0800 138 1111 | Find your local Citizens Advice Bureau

Hi welcome to the board Dadof2.
Congratulations taking steps to getting your life back under control. All the best tomorrow. Make sure you take something to read and some money for the drinks machine and maybe a snack just in case you have a lot of waiting around.
Also make sure you get yourself aquainted with whats about on the rest of the forum. There are some fantastic ways of saving money especially if you haven't got credit cards to fall back on. The Moneysaving old style board is fantastic. Also get yourself signed upto Freecycle www.freecycle.org , it's like Ebay where you bid on items but these items are free. You find everything from washing machines to clothes to childrens toys on there and a whole lot inbetween.

Hi and welcome Dadof2

Best of luck for tomorrow, it will be fine - it's the unknown that's the worst bit I think, you don't really know exactly what to expect, but I promise you, it's not as bad as you're probably imagining.
Wise words from Dalip too - I didn't feel any sort of relief when we left court to be honest. Relieved that the court bit was over yes, but not the instant "thank god, it's all over now" that I was expecting. It takes time to get used to, that's all
Do let us know how it goes won't you?You can't control everything in life....... your hair was put on your head to remind you of that

Thats as long as the bats currently flying around my belly don't eat me alive between now and tomorrow morning:D.
The nerves have well and truly kicked in (14 hours to go:p)0
