moterbike recovery costs

Hello all,
I am desperate for help on this matter. my 18 year old sons moped was stolen from his nans garden. It was found 3 days later completley trashed .Unfortunatly we ony had 3rd party cover on the insurance. The police phoned a recovery agency who took his moped to their garage. When we phoned them they said we can sign the bike to them or we can take the bike for £100 , they will also charge £12 per day to store it.When we got there they then told us its £100 even if they keep it and £12 per day until we pay it., and if he doesnt pay they will take him to a small claims court. My son has only just left full time school 3 weeks ago, he has no job and is waiting to see if he can get job seekers allowence.I have phoned the CAB and laywer phonelines and no one knows what we can do.We cannot afford to pay this for him.Can anyone please help us ?

  • My son went to the local CAB for advice today. They suggested that his parents got a loan out for him! Surely this is against CAB policy??

I would imagine that means they don't have any other advice to offer and are offering him the best practical advice they can.

You could check out their website to see if they have an official policy.

You could give the recovery agency a call and tell them that your son has no income and cannot afford to pay their charges, tell them they can take him to the small claims court if they wish, but seeing as he has no income they would be wasting their time and money.
