Hi 'am still curious about 'Blu ray' & is the quality any better than a ' an upconverting DVD ? Unfortuanately none of my friends have one to check out!

Is it still too soon to buy one ? You see articles like this 'Blu-Ray sales tank for good reasons'

http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2008/05/03/blu-ray-sales-tank-reason
& wonder? is it?

I would appreciate views, comments?

Thx

    The onl;y time I would buy a Blu-Ray player is if I wnated a PS3, which at the moment I don't.

The quality is better than DVD or upscaling DVD but in my opinion not enough to make me dash out and buy a HD Telly and Blu-Ray player. For the amount of DVDs I buy and watch I'm happy to stick with DVD for the forseeable future.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

I have a PS3 which plays Blue-ray, and it IS better than upscaled DVD.

That said, I have a 50 inch TV so picture quality is very important.
Upscaled DVD is very good anyway, Blue ray is excellent.

But when I am watching Dvd I dont notice the picture being not as good. if you see what I mean.

I dont think you would tell the difference on anything smaller than a 40" tv.
“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”

Also, you need a HD TV to be able to see the increase in quality with blu-ray. A normal TV will not be able to show the blu-ray quality.

From what I have heard, it is not as big a jump in quality as it was from VHS to DVD.
I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right

This is just my opinion for what its worth!!

Whilst BLU-RAY is unmistakeably of a higher quality than standard DVD I for one do not think it is worth either the cost of the player or the cost of discs.. To experience blu-ray at its very best though you have to have a HD ready 1080P TV. Once you start talking about upscaling a DVD onto any HD ready TV (720 or 1080) the quallity is excellent. If you already have a PS3 and a 1080P TV then fair enough buy BLU-RAYS but I think you will find that you will like me think is that disk really worth £8-£10 more to buy? Probably not.

I think the HD DVD vs BLU-RAY battle, whilst won by BLU-RAY has in fact done nothing more than knock the first nail into the coffin of using media full stop.

The future has to be downloadable High Definition content, if you insist on storing it then store it on a hard drive somewhere!

Like I said at the beginning........just an opinion.
