Credit rating advice please

Hi all,

I am up for a remortgage early next year as my fixed rate finishes. Also I am looking to consolidate some debts for easier payments. I have applied for a few loans and been turned down recently so checked my credit report and have discovered that there is a default on the record.

I have lots of green 'Satisfactory' and then one big red DEFAULT. It is for an old mobile phone contract that I thought I had paid up. I got a letter from a debt collection agency about it and when I called them they said the debt had been writen off so I left it at that and thought no more about it.

Now I'm really worried that I might not be able to re-mortgage or get a loan that I need as I have been declined for all I've applied for.

Any advice on how to proceed would be really helpful.
