hi just thought id tell u we are with scottish power - our dd for dual fuel is £200 a month! ...after doin all of the above as advised by lovely woman at scot power - we were using 50 units of leccy a day !!!!!! turned everything off and did twice daily readings.....found it was small pond heater used in winter!!! needless to say OH has appol profusely!!!! and its now gone!! so at the mo clearin the huge bill.....only 3 more months then bill cleared!! have a really thorough check of every appliance - scot power can send someone check your meter or get a leccy check ALL appliances - only takes a small fault with one to EAT your leccy!

I've kept the tumble drier but do my best never to use it to dry stuff from scratch, just to get stuff dry enough to put away after its been outside or airing inside overnight. Also, I've got a new tumble drier which has a sensor in it, so it stops tumbling when it thinks the clothes are dry enough (although I don't always agree with it!) but it does stop me wasting heat on overdrying stuff.

We haven't used our tumble dryer for about 8 years (its only use now is as something to keep the microwave on) and always hang washing indoors on an airer and even in winter jeans and thick stuff dries in just over a day. If you've got picture rails hang shirts etc from them. We've got a drafty old house but even so we only have 2 gas fires for the whole place and still keep warm. But in winter I sit here at the pc wearing 2 coats and a hat and boots and when I get cold and my fingers stop working I jump up and down - it works. Even so our last bills still came to over 300 quid.

Another thing - have you checked the timings on your central heating. Are you heating the whole house all day - could you have it on a bit less?

Plus sons got a playstation which he never turns off hiself and I only do when I notice it so I think that probably uses a fair bit...

I was thinking about how to persuade him to turn it off ... maybe get in the habit of checking regularly, and if you find it left on, turn it off, unplug all the wires and put it away neatly in the wardrobe. If he has to set it up every time, that might start enouraging him to turn it off! But if it is left on for hours, it must be getting hot, and Iwouldn't have thought that would be doing it much good, so it would be worth nagging him for that reason alone.
