My black and decker has given up on me and I think I need something a bit heavier duty - any suggestions appreciated:D

This one at Tesco looks a good buy.

If you want something bigger have a look at these at Ryobi-Direct. I've been looking at the Ryobi Expand It range that they sell in B&Q, but it works out cheaper to buy it from the manufacturer.

I recently got a good one from QVC - a G tech thingy. It's a strimmer and lawn edger - it's not a brush-cutter (i.e. can't clear large areas or lots of tougher weeds).
Has little plastic blades rather than a metal one. £39-ish plus p&p.

"Take the strain and fatigue out of strimming with the Gtech Garden Trimmer and Edger. It's lightweight as the battery is worn around your waist and, therefore, prolonged use won't leave you completely exhausted. It can be adjusted four ways on each attachment, a telescopic shaft extends for those difficult-to-reach jobs and the head can be tilted through 90 degrees so you can change from strimming to edging with ease. It includes 20 plastic blades and a 12V lead acid battery, which takes 12 hours to charge and can run continuously for 45 - 60mins."

If you don't like it you can send it back within 30 days!
