Cheapest way to post to Kenya?

After our visit to help set up an orphanage in Kenya during the summer (thanks to MSE-ers for helping us find the best deals to get there!) we now want to send out gifts and books but the cheapest way we have found with Royal Mail is surface rate at £9.41 for 2kg.
There must be a way to send out larger quantities - speed is not important, just that things get there safely.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Beckipeg

I dont know if this is the case anymore, in some countries you could post through their consulates (for eg, if your parcel is going to Kenya, you go to the Kenyan embassy in the UK and post through them). I am not sure if this is for diplomats alone, but worth a try. You would need Kenyan stamps though because once it reaches the country, they just post it into a local post box.
This is just a suggestion,I dont know if Kenyan consulate would do that for anyone but for Diplomats most consulates oblige.meher0 -
Thanks for the suggestion - I'll certainly investigate that way. We were thinking of larger quantities than could be posted in a local box though - we probably have the equivalent of 3 sacks of books, clothes and other items.
Is there a way of shipping larger quantities inexpensively?
Thanks,

Sorry, I dont know much about shipping, the other alternative would be to seek funds from charities or people towards the postage or send it through someone going to Kenya, I know this sounds a bit supid but you never know....meher0
