summer daytrips by train

looking for places to go in the summer with myself and 3 kids by train, within reasonable distance of the train station

would catch the train at elgin and either go the aberdeen way or the inverness way.

like the idea of going up to kyle of lochalsh but not sure if there is anything much to do there which is close to the station?

ideas would be to take a picnic, somewhere nice to stop etc

shopping in inverness is one option but cant do that too often:rolleyes:

anyone any ideas?

Come to sunny Dundee, we've loads to do for kids, Captain Scott's ship Discovery is just across from the train station, it's a lovely level walk along the River Tay with plenty places to stop for a picnic.Also close to the train station is science centre Sensation, good for kids bewteen about 5 and 11ish.

In town centre - Desperate Dan and Minnie the Minx statues if you liked the Dandy, , free museum, shopping centres, climb the Old Steeple, but not sure if you need to book that, I haven't done it for years.
