Got a leaflet through the post today via emmas diary. For £35. when you open an account(Usualy £25)Just quote LU091 on registration form at firstdirect.com.
Annoying for me as I've just joined for the £25 incentive pay.
When you've joined you can also transfer your previous bank account and direct debits for a further £25.pay.You can also reccomend up to 3 friends, when they activate their account you both get £25.! i think all these offers end 31st december 2004.

Hi
Thanks for that, have just applied.
£35 will come in handy and I'm sure an extra bank account will come in handy for a few months before cancelling it !!Working hard to to pay off the mortgage within 5 years instead of 9 by considering every penny spent. Aiming to go part time the and enjoy a simple life with simple pleasures!0 -
do you have to have your wage paid into the new account or can you just open an account? Is there a minimum opening deposit?0

Just got off the phone from First Direct and according to the advisor, the £35 will be paid into your account within 28 days of you depositing £1 into the FD account.
Thanks for the code Peakma

HI
just got my application pack through the post and the small print says that you have to have £1000 deposited in the account monthly or maintain a minimum of £1000 balance or you will be charged bank charges. just thought I'd let you know as i was going to run it for a short time and then close it but doesn't look worth it unless you pay your wages in or have spare cash. Aren't they meanies !Working hard to to pay off the mortgage within 5 years instead of 9 by considering every penny spent. Aiming to go part time the and enjoy a simple life with simple pleasures!0 -

First Direct are an excelllent bank. I think this kind of approach and the me, me, me money mad attitude stinks. Who's the real meanie here?
Ultimately, it wastes people's time and it adds charges to those of us who use First Direct. It's a lot of work to set up new accounts for people and then to also close them; I know, they opened mine perfectly for me and provided great communication throughout via mail so I knew exactly what was happening with my SO's and DD's.
Someone has to pay for your mean spirited £35 and, naturally, it's us genuine customers.0 -
A friend of mine works for First Direct and he is being made redundant in March as they are closing many of the UK sites and moving them to India.
On this basis alone I wouldn't join the bank, so with regard to the comments who's mean spirited, in my opinion it's FD.
(No offence intended).0 -
I just opened an account with the ROyal Bank Of Scotland, £50 deposited in when I make a payment . Leaflet came throught the door, but cant remember the code and they took my voucher in the bank, as they had never seen one before !
NeilIf you can't say something nice - SHUT UP0 -

Your comment was appreciated, however I thought that was the whole point of this website!!!!
The bank only want your business is there's a profit for them. as for them moving their call centre abroad and making English citizens redundant, what does that tell you about their ethics!Working hard to to pay off the mortgage within 5 years instead of 9 by considering every penny spent.
