Farewell gift for friends moving to Australia?

Some friends of ours (2 adults; 3 teenaged children) are moving to Australia for 3 years.
Any idea of a farewell gift
I'd like it to be something not too bulky, as they'll have loads to take with them. DD is thinking of a HM photo album - we've known them for years, and their children are friends with ours, so we have pics going back 15 years.
TIA, Penny. x

Photo album is a great idea, or you could do it in scrapbook style? Friends of ours moved back to the USA a while ago and we did the same thing, writing notes with each photo about what was happening, where we were, ages of children... when the photo was taken.
Good luck, it's lots of fun putting an album together.
Companies such as Snapfish and Photobox do photobooks - may be worth looking at, especially if you can get a money off code. Also, may be less bulky than a normal album???

A photo album sounds nice, but even a photo album can be tough to pack when you move to Aus... I know, I did it! So if you do choose to do that, make it as light and compact as you can. The limits on airline baggage is the same if you move here or if you fly over for a holiday.
Another idea would be to get them an experience for when they arrive - tickets to an attraction that'll be local to them. It's always nice when you move over to act like a tourist for a bit.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
If weight is an issue, put the album on disk, one for each family member. You could make a slideshow in PowerPoint or similar, and design your own inset card, using your favourite pic. They could then also use the pictures for all sorts of things, eg as a wallpaper on their computer.Context is all.

My sister and her husband emigrated to Canada last month and we were clueless what to get for a leaving present! My sis is the one that does all the scrapbooking and photo albulms etc so that was out!
We decided to wait until they got to Canada and arranged for a local company to deliver a food/gift hamper to their new apartment. It's always nice to have something delivered to you when you move to a new house, probably more so when it's in another country!

Friends of ours moved to spain a few months back and we made them a survival kit up. (some were jokey items to make them laugh)
Spanish Dictionary/ Phrase book
HP Brown Sauce shacets
Plasters
Alzaseltser
Headache tablets
inflate rubber rings
sun cream
after sun
silly hats
mosqito repelant
silly sunglasses
photo cd (of all the places we'd been, they liked, they went etc...)
a photo in frame of there fav supermarket
are just some of things we included, (we had been colloeting bits for weeks) we thought about things they would miss, and things that would make them laugh (as they are mad as hatters!!)
We parceled it all up with a list of instructions/ uses for each item and posted it too them. It arrived about a week after they arrived and the loved it.
It cost a bit to post, but was worth it...we have had numrous photos from them using the stuff from the survival kit.

Why not put the photos on CD and mail them an album of them when they arrive? Or wait till they have an Australian address and send them a care package of the food they can't get over there.
