Hi,
I also got the same email,
my question is; if the bank draft or the cheque is cleared, how can it be a scam?
I mean obviously if i give the car away and pay the agent whatever before it has cleared then I understand it, but after the draft is cleared, then can the bank still withdraw it??
Thanks
SanjThanks so much everyone for writing about this. I was so close to getting in touch with the guy as I am real need of the money but it was my dad who said it looks like a scam. My dad called the number this morning and there is indeed someone who answers the phone and says he'll pay me £5k (when I only want £1,800 for my car) and the rest of the money is to go to the shipper. I was about to mail him and ask why he can't pay the shipping company myself when I typed his details into Google and up popped this thread.
I can't believe now how close I was to going along with it - thinking emails would be proof of my positioning - didn't think about how the money I was paid coud be taken off me. I would have been, over £2k and my car down!
THANKS EVERYONE0 -

Unfortunately, there's no such thing as a 'cleared' cheque. From the Metropolitan Police:The_Fuzz wrote:...a stolen cheque or bankers draft can be recalled by the bank even after the funds have gone through the clearing cycle and are showing on your account.0 -
Pls note that you'll have to send on the balance on the funds that you'll get to my shipper so he can come attend to the pick up as soon as you make the car ready.
There really is some nonsense posted on this thread. All this scam is is an overpayment one. It even states that in the original email. They don't want your car, just untraceable cash. Disposing of cars takes too much time, money and organisation for this sort of criminal.0 -
Hi Guys... one and all ..... Re: The Car Scam...
Have not seen any mention yet... but.... earlier this year I was getting around "20" per day...... found out that they "ALL" came from NIGERIA..!!
Have had my system upgraded now.... do not get any at all... but of course as soon as you advertise "anything" be it for sale, want.. rent property (as we do) then.... along come the clever "monkies" with all the tricks sorted and ready to go......
At first I replied with VERY rude suggestions...!! just for fun.... but it just got worse..... in the end I could not be bothered to spend the time being "offensive" so... let it go..... However.... It "IS" a scam to get cash from you .... lots of cash.... I have seen it on TV where "many" people have been taken in by the "con"...... so ..... the "primates" are indeed getting away with it in some instances.
All the best... David.0 -
