With the demolition and rebuilding of Broadmead, House of Fraser are moving to new premises, and they are having a sale from 24-26 June 2008. They are CLOSED this weekend and Monday.

I got sent a 'personal' invitation but I'm sure as the information is on their website anyone can turn up ...

Just to add that they are advertising in the local paper that they are closed to the public all next week, re-opening Saturday 28th, so maybe you have to have bought something big from them and given your address to be invited? not sure what that was in my case!

but will definitely be nipping in to see if they are giving away a bag like one I bought a few years back which had a monkey key ring on, they also did them in pink which I thought would be a bit OTT, but a) I'm now not so sure it would be OTT and b) I'd quite like a pink monkey on the blue bag I bought then! :rotfl:

The three day sale is personal invitation only, I got one as I'm a cardholder.

In reality though I wonder if they are going to have anyone at the door checking to see if you have a letter?

I think the bags you are referring to are Kipling - they have monkey keyrings. I think they stopped selling them a year or so ago unfortunately.

That's right, they were Kipling, and they still had a few in last time I looked ... possibly not the bright pink though.

Anyway, it will be worth having a nose! Guess I may see you there one day! :rotfl:

No, I won't be in the queue, DH has a hospital appointment and I ought to prioritise that. However I am working from home tomorrow so may call in after his appointment, before going home to do some of that work! :rotfl:

Well, I just got back. Jesus, it was completely mental. I queued for half an hour to get in, and another 20 minutes to pay for the things I bought (just some cheap jewellery - couldn't find anything else!)

Yup I'm back too. No queuing to get in, but to pay! Nearly walked out, was only getting some travel bits, but in the queue I was led astray by a suitcase ...

On the way OUT I asked if I could come back with DH and was given another letter. Some LONG conversations were started in the queue, and the chap behind me said he didn't have a letter to start with. So, I suspect anyone can blag their way in, and it definitely IS open to anyone from Saturday until it's all gone.

Went yesterday- the problem with HOF is that its prices before the sale are double what I expect to pay so during a Sale they are about the same as everyone else's. Not too exciting.

Please note: whatever you plan to buy (ie clothing, shoes) make sure they are exactly what you want and fit before you buy them. My OH bought a pair of trousers during his lunch hour, shop was very busy so he didn't bother to try them on. Upon trying to return them (not for a refund! - you cant get a refund on any of the sale items) he was told he couldn't exchange either.

After much debating with the staff they agreed he could exchange, but were adamant that they didn't have to. Even though it only says you cant request a refund on the receipt and next to the till, nothing stated about 'no exchanges'.
