HELP! I'm paying too much tax!

I started a new job a few months ago and never received a P45 from my old employer. I also never filled one out at my new employer. I have been on BR tax all that time and am paying far too much and it's starting to take the toll on my bank account! I received my P60 today but it doesn't state the right amount of tax I have paid. It only says I've paid £200 when I've probably paid nearly double that. What do I do next? If I just fill out a P46 will it get sorted?
Help would be grately appreciated!!!
Thanks!

Filling out a P46 will put you on the radar, as far as HMRC are concerned, and they'll review your tax code. If your P60 is wrong you should tell your employer as soon as possible - ask for a breakdown of your wages, if you don't have all of your payslips to hand.

Remember that if you started before 5th April, and didn't hand in a P45, any tax earned in your previous employment won't show on the P45. You should have been asked to complete a P46 in the first place, in the absence of a P45.

My guess is that the P60 isnt wrong but only has details of the current employment and not the previous.

Have you chased your P45 with the old employer?

Give your tax office a ring. Explain that your new employer used the BR rate of tax for you up to the 5 April 2008 and you think that you have paid too much tax. The tax man should , by now, have details of your old employment , together with your new employment to 5 April 2008. They can check if you have overpaid tax.

My husband did just this about two years ago and the tax refund was sorted over the phone.
