Hi
I'm looking at doing a book keeping course with the aim of working as a book keeper or a accountant in the future. I know that a lot of financial jobs are subject to a credit check before employment. Is this the case with Book keeping/accountancy?
I have a default on my credit file and think that i may fail the check if they do check this! Obviously dont want to waste money on the course if this is the course!
ive posted this on the employment board too but didnt know whether u guys would be able to help seeing how we are always on about defaults!
Thanks!

you'd be better posting this on the employment & jobseeking board...there's some clever bods there who may know more about this kind of thing.
my answer would be that you're OK as long as you've no CCJs, IVA or BR on your file....I could be wrong though.
EDIT- just realised that you have....For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 20070 -
Hi lyssa sparkles... i am doing a bookkeeping course too, so would be interested in hearing what the answers are..
My opinion, for what it's worth, is that i can't see how it's relevent, it's not as though, as a bookkeeper, you would ever touch cash, or do actual banking or anything. All you are doing is making sense of the transactions which have been handled by the business............
I would imagine any company might have it's own policy on employing people with a credit check, but that would be more working for a bank etc.
If you were a finance clerk, or accounts office asistant type job then your employer might have a need to credit check as you handle his cash/bank accounts in real terms, to protect himself from theft. This is the kinda job i do at the moment and there was no credit check, phew!I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
thanks to both of you for your advice. i couldnt see any reason why i would need a credit check as im not actually selling financial products lol!
I've emailed the ICB to see what they say tooAug £10 a day £0/£10000 -
As far as I know it's only banks and actual finance companies who do this, though I guess some others might do. My current job (for a college) and previous one (Government dept) both involve(d) accounting, access to cash, cheque book, bank accounts, paying invoices, credit control (boo hiss) etc and neither of them have done a credit check. I've certainly never seen it mentioned on the blurb for any accounting jobs.Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0
