Buying a ring - jewellers that make their own rings in Leicester / Brum

Hi all,
I am looking to buy an engagement ring for my girlfriend. A friend of mine has told me to look up local jewellers rather than go to one of the big chains and to find one that makes his own rings (i.e. has things like bunsen burners in his store).
He said that his local jeweller makes rings for a large company which buy from him and then mark it up 30%.
I live in Leicester but can travel to places like Birmingham (e.g. their jewelry quartre).
Does anyone have any recommendation on jewellers?
Thanx

I would definatly go to a small designer maker jeweller (There are tons in both Birmingham or Hatton Garden in London) but you will find them in most places.
You will get much more for your money (The mark up in shops is typically 2.2 times what the maker gets) and it will be much more personal.
Try searches for designer jeweller or bespoke.
You need to have an idea of you budget. the most important thing is to look at their portfolio of work.
I will pm you the name of one I know.0 -
It's well worth haggling too - a friend went to Hatton garden and found similar rings in two shops. She preferred the more expensive one, and cheekily asked them to match the lower price - they did, no problem.:A :heartpuls June 2014 / £2014 in 2014 / £735.97 / 36.5%0
