I’m one of those guys who had once a very, very poor credit rating but learned my lessons and in the last 3 years have been working really very hard to improve it: Stable and good income, NO Credit Cards, Loans, Store cards or Overdrafts. During all these years I have been tracking my credit rating with the 3 agencies by subscription from CheckMyfile.com, and basically all my planning was based of the information I was getting from these CR reports.
In the last 12 months I have moved twice house, and despite my efforts of being registered with the electoral roll and royal mail I was never matched in these reports and my rating was dropping all the time.
These years I’ve started become frustrated because whatever I do (positively), my rating was going staidly down, what made me contact experian (on advise of this forum).
I’ve then find out recently that my name in the electoral roll was misspelled and was not on any CRA. I made a request to the council to correct my name and the update will take place in July ’08 with the CRA’s. However during the dispute, talking with someone from experian I’ve noticed that we were talking about two different records and he advise me to pull a report directly from the experian site.
Long history short, but when I pulled this week all reports I just was shocked:

From Checkmyfile.com:
Experian: 523
Equifax: 94

CallCredit: 288
From the original sites:
Experian: 688
Equifax: 308
CallCredit: 824
(Electoral roll will be included in July ‘08 in all 3)

I reckon my Credit rating still bad, but Not that bad as checkmyfile.com was making me believe. I’m so angry (ARrrrGH!!), because knowing what I know now I would make many financial decisions I have done differently, which cost me a lot of money … a part from paying for this scam subscription with checkmyfile.com….
Please be aware: Check you credit files with the relevant agencies, NOT with middlemen!
I wasted 3 years, pulling my efforts and resources and applying it to the wrong direction!

  • I would take scores from any of them with a pinch of salt, as all lenders use there own calculation and scoring methods, it's just a nice little earner for them to make money by "selling" people "Their predicated" score to the information held on the report. For example your Experian score with them is 668 however I might own a company and you might only score 200 points with my scoring table, so id take them with a pinch of salt, if any any doby just apply for someone you want, I did with a score of 525 with Expeiran but I still got approved for several credit cards with some high limits as well

I have used checkmyfile and found them to be inadequate as they do not report all the data. For example on my Equifax I had no linked addresses with checkmyfile but I decided to go direct to Equifax and there is a linked address with a default registered against it where I have NEVER lived, therefore this was stopping me getting any credit.

I would advise anyone to go the the 3 CRAs directly to get the correct data.
