Taking Dianette for Acne/Skin Problems

Has anyone had any success with taking Dianette for acne/skin problems?

Do you take the usual 7 day break or take the tablets continuously?

I took them for six months in the past and they worked brilliantly. So they took me off them and put me on a different pill as they told me Dianette is high risk for certain things-not entirely sure, but trusted them on that. The spots came back, so I've been on Dianette again for six months, but its just not working this time :(

PS. I take them with a seven day break, as that is what the doctor told me I had to do.

I was Dianette for 10 years (and yes it's treated like every other pill). Every doctor I saw (lots of different docs while at uni, the back home) had a different opinions on Dianette. I remember switching to some other pill beginning with M, and my spots came back bad. I've now been on Cilest for a few years. It's not as good though, and I've been taking Tetracycline for a couple of years. I'm sure this can't be good, but the doctors keep saying it's OK to keep taking it. I think I shall have another review soon and see if there are other products I can try.
If you do get dianette on prescription, make sure that your GP puts 'for contraceptive use', or a female sign or the prescription, otherwise you will have to pay a prescription charge.
Yes, I found out the hard way and had to pay when I had run out and couldn't go back to the docs.

I use dianette and its cleared up the spots on my back that had really got quite bad as I suffer from PCOS. I've been on it for a couple of years now and refuse to come off.

I was put on Dianette about seven years ago for PCOS, not bad skin. But a great side effect was that my skin looked wonderful and the bumps on my forehead went away. I was taken off of it about 6 months ago as my new doctor said that it is very strong and I am overweight. The PCOS is still fine but the bumps on my forehead have come back!

  • I was on Dianette from the age of 16 for spots on my back and it worked wonders. I've had to switch in recent years as my GP told me that it's not the best pill to be taking if you have thrombosis/circulatory probs in the family. I take Yasmin now and my skin is also fine (although I'm 27 now so it's probably balanced out itself by now). Hope this helps.

I had acne as a teenager, (really badly) and tried everything including dermatologist only stuff.
But 1 years worth of dianette (that was 8 years ago and they let you have it for that long back then) cleared it for ever. I am now on Yasmin and literally have not had a spot since age 16 (not a single one) I am always complimented on my skin and am so surprised I have no scarring. It was so bad I was under a dermatologist before so this is a real turn around.

I now use Yasmin for contraception an find it OK. Microgynon is known to make acne worse and therefore is not reccommended for people with acne.

If you are overweight or smoke or are older than 35, your risk of clots is increased anyway therefore you are likely not to be prescribed dianette due to the increase in thrombosis. (pill may not be recommended altogether).
    See GP about it.

Ive been on Microgynon for a few years, then last year I had a bad flare up of acne, im 27, I never suffered from it as a teenager, but got it quite bad last summer, I put off going to the docs hoping that lotions and potions would work, but it just got worse. I finally went to see the doctor in december and she put me on Dianette, and it started to get better so when I went back for my review she said I could stay for up to a year, so has kept me on it till december, then I presume ill go back to my old pill, it hasnt cleared it up totally yet but it really has helped, I hope that it has totally gone by december.

I am a bit worried that it will come back when i have to come off Dianette and change back, but ill have to wait and see, december is a long time off yet, but fingers crossed it clears it up totally.
