Pixie, Since I am in a jovial mood tonight, the student loan would be I guess a good investment, unless of course your OH is doing a degree in ballerina-ism! lol, I shouldn't laugh as my eldest daughter has kindly requested that me and her dad finance her through Uni to learn DANCE!, to be a Vet/Lawyer etc yes, dance? - I don't think so!.

    Hi Lilacpixie

I would not consider the mortgage to be "debt" as such because, in an emergency, you own the house which then could be sold and the mortgage could (hopefully!) be cleared.

However, I would consider the Student Loan as a debt because, although it could be argued that the education it supported makes your OH more employable/able to earn more, you don't have anything "physical" that you could turn into cash to pay it back immediately should an emergency require it. Having said that, I think that the SL is probably the best type of debt to have other than a mortgage, as others have already said, because of the very low interest rates, so I would not worry unduly about it...

    Hope that makes sense?!

Oh, it's all right, I think I've just twigged - lol. I've only just learnt to text in the last 6 months so all these new 'phrases' are a tadge worrying for me. I've been pronouncing Chav as 'Shav' for ages now - well I am deaf so I have an excuse.

I guess I'm lucky as my mortgage is the only debt I've ever had . I've always considered it a debt albeit a good one. I shall be glad when it's all payed off in only 8 months ......yes only eight months !!!!

lol - I was just debating whether the user called meyore was mey-or-e (which sounds like it is being a bit itallian) or mey-ore (as in the winnie the pooh donkey but with an m on the front) but shav/chav is a much better conundrum.

Err and on the original topic - I think you are debt free when all but your mortgage is paid off, then you are eventually mortgage free (although I don't have one and am planning on getting debt free before I get a mortgage so I may not have a proper vote on this)

hehe babbit. My gran was a bit like that. she used to just call people what ever she fancied then used to blame the mis pronunciation on her being deaf. SHe could lip read at 1000 paces as well.

But, hey, it's nice relief to be able to laugh in between the horrible bits, like DCA's etc!.
