Cheap inks have ruined my printer!

I have an Epson C60 and have tried various cheaper refills - the latest being Cartridge World. My printer constantly clogged up and despite several head cleans, lines appeared across my print out. I have now returned to true Epson Cartridges and theres now no problem (and the cartridge lasts longer) - EXCEPT - excessive head cleaner has now resulted in damaging the print head so I now have permanent lines (that appear on photo prints etc) - so cheap inks have ruined my printer completely - so my aim now is search for a new printer that is the most economical in use of inks!
Am I the only one who has experienced this problem??
stay lucky!
Steve.

Sorry to hear about the cheap inks. The inkrite cartridges are meant to be good I use them, unlike some cheap refills they contain cleaning agents that are meant to keep the jets clear, just like the Epson originals are. Also you can but inkrite cleaning cartridges. I no I have problems with an Epson 890 using a few different types of refills and got the cleaning cartridges which fixed the problem. I now only buy inkrite for my Epson 890 and r300.

A 6 years old printer I have Epson 600 seems to take anything I throw at it.

No longer a user, goodbye folks. PLEASE delete my account. Thank you
  • just seen your post, my epson c60 has given up the ghost aswell took it in to be checked £10.00 and new inks £18.00 (could have brought a new one if I'd known it was going to cost) it lasted two weeks and has stopped again don't want to pay another service the thing inside moves along like it's printing but nothing comes out onto the paper any ideas?

you keep things clean and dry and organised

I have a Canon i965 which is 4800x2400 one of the smaller 2pl jet sizes and have not had problems I get my ink from Select-a-font. Get on their mailling list and buy when they have 1/2 price on all their stock.

Not cheap but the ink colour etc are supberb on my 6 tank print after almost 2 years and 20 odd refills.

Remember to refill before the ink drys in the the jets. Check the cartrige visually.
    Seth.
  • yeah my printer is doing the same, lines keep appearing, text seems to be ok.
i think maybe once i use the original canon cartridges it might get back to normal.
hats off to choice-stationary for there support tho, i emailed them and within 24 hours they offered a new cartridge, I'm hoping that this is a bad cartridge and the next one will be better, if not its back to orignal canons :(

Are you able to take the print head out of the printer? Using boiling water in a cup and dip a bit of kitchen towel in the boiling water and carefully wipe over the print head. Then dry it with a piece of dry kitchen towel.

  • that is NOT a good idea, will probably damage the print head for good.
even water is too big for the tiny holes in the head, I'm just waiting for the replacement cartridge to be sent, will probably arrive tomorow, really hoping that that will work.

strange thing is that when I set it to high quality the prints come out ok, but when i use standard quality thats when the lines appear.

No m8 this wont damage the print head. Read below which is taken from the cartridge world website and gives a similar way of doing it.

" In extreme cases, if the above procedure does not work, then place the cartridge, print head down, in the bottom of a saucer. Boil water and pour it into the saucer so that the print head surface is completely covered and gently agitate the cartridge for approximately twenty seconds. Remove the cartridge and gently touch-dry the print head with a tissue.

    • Make sure that there is no moisture on the electrical contact areas of the cartridge, if so, gently wipe clean with a soft tissue. Wet contacts can cause serious damage to the printer electrics.
    • Do not use methylated spirits to clean print heads, the chemical composition is not compatible and can cause blockage problems.
    • If in doubt and you still cannot rectify the problem, take your cartridge to your Cartridge World store."
