Smallish Debt

Hi

im new to this site, and thought id share my story. My total debt at the moment is £ 3,600, which i hope to clear by xmas 2008 that is my aim.
My Husband is very good with managing money, well i guess he has to being a accountant i you could say is just the total opposite, i dont have a clue on managing my finances/account. Iv been married 5 years and before marriage i had debts of 3k, which my husband paid off for me, and now iv ended up in the same position. We are lucky enough to have paid off our mortgage and hubby has a credit card which he pays in full each month.
now i really need to get my act together and pay off this debt without his help, i know we are in this together but im the one who racked it up, so im the one who needs to pay it off.
is anybody else in a simialr situation to mine.
Debt Free date March 09:D hopefully sooner!
£ 1640- virgin card
£ 441.76- bank loan

total was £3891.20
now £ 2081.76

Welcome to MSE, sounds like you have had your light bulb moment, which is a start! Have you hatched a plan to clear this by xmas 08? Will you do overtime, or lots of ebaying, or something else? Well done for seeing that you need to clear this, I am sure it would be so easy to let your OH clear it for you.

If you can tell us a bit about your income and expenditure we may be able to see some areas you can make savings and have extra funds to throw at the debt. Who is the CC with and what is the APR?

After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

    Dad Gift 6k ¦ Savings & Inv Tst: £2,500
    Loan 10k: £0 ¦ Dad 5.5k: £2,270 ¦ LTSB: £0 ¦ RBS: £0 ¦ Virgin £0 ¦ Egg £0

  • yes im glad i got the lightbulb moment too.
my credit card is with tescos but at the moment its 0%IFC, so im not paying any interest on it.
i earn £1116 a month. I look after the household accont and put
£ 400.00 towards the bills, ie phone, elec, gas, broadband, council tax, hubby pays for maintenance and petrol of my car so i dont have to worry about that. i then have £ 716.00 a month to put towards my card, but instead of putting it all towards that, i end up frittering money away on stuff i dont really need.
hubby could easily pay it all off for me, but i want this to be my personal challenge to prove that i can do it and not just relay on hubby to get me out of it, he did it once and not again, plus the money i spent was for a very lavish 30th party, which he insisted that if u want u would have to fund!!
