dunno where to start!!! help please?

i have roughly £7000 debt.may not seem a lot to some but it is to me!! i earn around £600 a month as my hours fluctuate constantly. i get paid 4 weekly. the problem is.i have not paid a penny to my debtors for months now.(out of sight out of mind) thats what i thought anyway.

i have been given two court summons for 2 different creditors.i have continued to ignore their requests.i know i got my self in to this mess, that was easy, how do i get out of it?

i recently contacted a debt councillor but they were going to charge me £15 every month.more debt!! i said no to them after filling in the forms and posting it back.i have had 2 calls from them now. one which was quite nasty.

help!!

First of all, try following the red-coloured link on the blue bar towards the top of this page, called "Where to start with problem debts".

Other than that, I'm sure more people will reply soon who have more experience of your situation than I do :grouphug:

Be prepared to answer lots of questions about your incomings and outgoings. Have the facts and figures ready etc :)

I'm not much help either, but can I just say .....

It's best not to ignore these things.

    Good luck :)

The procedure is relatively straight forward. You fill out a budget giving your income and out goings and the court orders you to make a payment you can afford. If you have an extremely variable income that is a complication. The court will expect you to supply more details (wageslips) than they usually ask for and they will work out the average and base their judgement on that. Budgeting for the payment then becomes your problem.

Can you post your budget and let us know just how big your income variation is. Then you will get more detailed advice.

  • Hi

I got myself into a right pickle about 10 months ago, where i had loans, and credit cards, and store cards all over the place!! I eventually decided that i would have to consolidate all the debt and decide with the lenders how much i would be able to afford.
    My debt was about £13000.00!!!!!
I decided to pay as much as i possibly thought i could over 3 and a half years, and i thought to myself that i would struggle like mad trying to pay it off. But once i prioritised, i found it got easier and easier. I smoked 20 a day, so that was on average £5 per day, so i cut down, i had a contarct mobile, costing me on average £150 per month, i went on to a cheaper contract and started emailing more, and eventually got a pay as you go.
All this is really irrelivant to you at this time, but i just want you to know that it does get easier.
Have you spoken to your lenders? See if you can come to some compramise with them? Tell them that you have been working away for the last few months, hence the reason you havnet received and of there letters or phone calls. Just play on it and see what happens. At the end of the day if the worst comes to the worst it'll go to court and they'll decide and amount per month for you to pay back and they wont skint you!
But first of all i would try blagging it to your lenders.
