Credit scoring for Utilities?

Ive just moved into a new flat and got all the usual up and running, gas, water, electric, phones etc - but do you get credit scored on these?? I ask because I wonder if that is the reason why I got turned down for a loan, I also recently got credit checked by my employer when starting my new job so there must about 6 searches in the last 2 months. How much do searches pull your credit rating down by??
