Help with bank charges
Bogart
My bank (Lloyds TSB) have charged me over £200 this month in bank charges for being overdrawn. No arguments about being overdrawn but I feel the amount they are charging is excessive. I have tried to explain the situation and advised that CCCS are helping me to sort out my finances but it all seems to fall on deaf ears. In total this year they have charged me in excess of £700 in charges alone. And this doesn't even include interest charges.
Can anyone give me any advice on how to approach this issue with them. Every time I think I can see some light at the end of the tunnel it seems like someone turns it off.
TIA

This recent thread should give you some very useful pointers including a template for a letter you might want to consider using.

Accuse me of being biased if you like but there is sure one way that you will not pay excessive bank charges - do not go overdrawn or if you have to overdraw stay within an authorised limit.
If these charges are being levied because of returned standing orders or direct debits then cancel them and ask the companies concerned for an alternative way of paying.

If you are going with CCCS then do two things.
Cancel all direct debits and standing orders for non priority debts. Priority debts are mortgage and secured loans, council tax and insurance. You are also probably better off cancelling any utility direct debits. Any small saving will get wiped out by even one bounced DD. Make sure you let everyone know they are being cancelled.
Open a basic bank account and transfer your salary and critical DD's to it. Keeping a current account with a bank you owe money too is rarely a good idea if you are with CCCS.
