I cancelled my car insurance as I sold the car and tey said I still owed £300 odd pounds, I then wrote to them and asked if it would be possible for me to pay off the arrears – I heard absolutely nothing from them. Then on the 4 June they deducted £166.14 from the card I paid my deposit with (they kept this on file). I wrote again and they did not reply and then on the 17/6 they then deducted another £166.14 from my account. When I phoned they said this is legal as the credit agreement item 4(b) - allows for the payment to be taken from the card the deposit was paid if I fail to pay. I understand this but how can they just deduct almost £350 in one month. I am totally messed up for this month and have no money. I feel sick that they can just do this. On top of all this they have charged me £75 in charges. Is there anyone I can contact or is this just the way it is? Thanks for reading.

Try your card provider . Ask about unauthorised withdrawals.0

Without looking at the clause in the 'contract' it is difficult to say whether their actions are in fact legal, but I would have a word with your card provider/bank and see if these transactions are legal, indeed even if they can be reversed.
Also, have a chat with National Debtline - 0808 800 4000, CCCS - 0800 138 1111, or your local CAB. They are Debt Counselling charities, who can offer you professional, impartial and free advice on how best to deal with these uncaring vultures.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Read the insurance contract. That will remind you whether you agreed to let the insurance company take the money in this way.0

Thanks, I will phone the CAB - I just can't believe that I wrote to them and explained the situation and they just could not care.0

I have just seen a copy of the credit agreement and it does say they can use the card BUT can they still do it if you write to them telling them you are struggling to pay and want to pay it over a few months? I still feel so sick and don't know what we are going to do for the rest of the month! They are vultures!!!!0 -
What did the £300+ comprise of, it seems very high if you have just cancelled the policy midway thru the year. That is around a full years car insurance for meMF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/2000

I had something similar done to me by Direct Line - so won't be using them again. Unfortunately I paid what they asked me for, but this was prior to me finding this fantastic site - Hindsight!. Sorry can't help you but want to wish you luck and hopefully you will get something back.
