Ccj Help?

hi, anyone able to help me out please?
I have 2 ccj's on my credit file.
I have been paying them by monthly s/o since I got them, one in 2003 and one in 2007.
They are the only things (as far as I can see) that are stuffing up my credit score. I owe approx 3500 on one and 4200 on the other.
I am trying to find a way of paying them off to clear my credit record but I have read that after 6 years it disappears from you credit record anyway, so I may as well keep paying the low monthly amount the court decided on the oldest one.(is this correct?)
I was wondering if I had any chance of getting rid of the other ccj outstanding amount by offering a full and final settllement of say half of the debt to the solicitors I pay.

thanks in anticipation of some advice.

Its true CCj's disappear from your credit file 6 years after judgment. I doubt you would manage to 'get rid' of the other CCJ alltogether as usually when they are paid in full they are just marked as 'Settled' the fact you recieved the CCJ doesn't change i'm afraid.

CCJs get removed from your credit record after 6 years.

Even if you pay them off before the 6 years they will still remain on your file, but will be marked as "settled" or "satisfied".

  • Thanks, I know the oldest ccj will just say settled but that is still a big improvement isn't it.
Do you know if companies accept lower lump sum payments after a ccj has been given. Even though i am paying every month, albeit a small amount, I thought that they might prefer a large lump sum say £2500 rather than £15 p/m for 50 years or so.

But I thought CCJs get written off after six years paid or not so you would not be paying for 50 years. Is this wrong?

That doesn't sound like a CCJ Louise. As far as i am aware, a county court judgement will fall off your credit record after 6 years (creditors will not be able to see it), but the CCJ will remain until satisfied (paid). It may be possible to do a full and final settlement on a CCJ so that you pay less that the amount owed at the discretion of the creditor, but it would still remain on your credit file, only marked as satisfied.

If a creditor gets a CCJ for a debt, but does not then pursue you, the CCJ will not become statute barred, but after 6 years, the creditor would need to get the courts permission to enforce the debt and state why they have not pursued it previously. Could this be what you were thinking of?
