Word of warning about AWD mortgage brokers

It was a way of getting into the industry. Applied via an advert in a national newspaper. The ad seemed good and the flannel they give you, sort of brainwashes you into thinking that you can earn some decent money, but you only find this out once you've been dropped in at the deep end, and the decent salary is at the expense of the client0

What constitutes best advice to them is to sell the mortgages and related policies that generate the most commission.
With respect, they are tied agents to legal and general. They dont have to give best advice and their remit is to sell. No different to any other tied distribution channel.
Of course, you should never use a tied salesforce but they exist and accusing them specifically of not giving best advice when they are not legally required to do so or able to do so is not on. If you dont like that business model (and you shouldnt) then the accusation should be laid at the door to all companies that operate that model. Not just this one. If you feel strongly about it then write to the FSA and tell them that you dont think that salesforces should be able to use the adviser tag. There is a lot of pressure on the FSA at the moment to clearly split sales and advice and the FSA seems to be on the side of the salesforces at the moment and not the advisers (no surprise as the biggest salesforces are the banks and most of the decision makers at the FSA are ex bankers).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Was called by carrington carr last week after searching brokers online( looking to remortgage), Rep was dispatched from WSM To West Devon and was very helpful but just from his anecdotes you could tell that he was used to dealing with the highly distressed end of the market, which is fine as someone has to deal with these cases and if you are in the S##T then a fee is inevitable. I think he knew before he arrived that he would struggle to better our situation and when he realised we were pretty clued up about what we were doing he went on his way without even booking a further visit and said he would ring us when he had done some investigations. No call as yet and I dont really expect one to be honest. Nice enough chap though!!0
