AQA - Test help

Options
Please could someone who works for AQA help me. I have received my test today (test number 1) and I am fine with the factual questions. Where I am struggling is with the questions with no correct/definitive answer. How are you expected to answer these, just using your own opinion? Do the want the answer to be humourous? Think I'm going to struggle if they do as I'm not naturally witty!

Well I am just like you, not naturally humourous and I got in. To be honest I hardly do anything with AQA anymore as they went on a big recruitment drive and there ended up not enough questions to go round. Although that has changed now but I seem to have gone off the boil somewhat.

I answered the factual questions easily as well, but when you join you don't have to answer questions that you aren't good at, like the ones where you have to give an opinion. There is absolutely loads of help stuff available and once you get in if you keep checking the 'wow' answers and previous answers that are put up you get into it and understand what to write and you pick up loads of tips.

I really wouldn't let it put you off. Just try as hard as you can and once you are in worry about the humourous stuff.

I think the thing is if you are really careful with your spelling and grammar as they pick up on that A LOT, and don't try to be too witty if you aren't a funny person. Don't be wishy washy, be positive and definite as thats another thing they expect. No approximate answers.

Good luck. I probably waffled a bit there, but I hope it helps you somewhat.

    Hi

Can I ask how long it takes to receive the test once your application has been acknowledged. Sorry to Poppie67 - I am one of the people that has applied in this last round but would in no way want to take work away from those that want it.

Of course, there is no guarantee that I'll be accepted.

How much would I expect to earn per week if I did, say, 2 hours every evening? Is there a set amount per answer and how many questions could I get through as a newbie just starting out?
YOUR = belonging to you (your coat); YOU'RE = you are (I hope you're ok)

really....it's not hard to understand :T
  • I applied last Thursday and found out today that I wasn't successful. I am gutted - I had stupidly based so many hopes on getting that job!

I waited well over a week until I received the test after my application was acknowledged, but I remember reading on here at the time everyone got theirs in a couple of days, I suppose it depends how busy they are.

Don't worry about me, every man for themselves ;)

I could not say how much you would earn. It is really slow at first. There is so much emphasis put on SPG (Spelling Punctuation and Grammar) that the content is the easy bit. There is a limit on how many questions you skip, so if you just press 'start' and get your first question and can't answer it, you end up in a bit of a spiral. I found the best way to get going was pick my questions from the hard queue, which certainly worked for me at first, although its a lot slower to earn money that way as the questions take more research. But once you get going, as long as its busy, and you put the hours in, you should be ok. Its no get rich quick scheme, no matter what people say.

I hope I don't sound too negative, as it is really lots of fun....or was for me anyway.

And glittergal just apply again. There is no limit to the number of times you can apply. Lots of people on other threads on here applied again and again and got accepted.

I would stress though as much as the content of the answers matter the SPG is REALLY important, so concentrate on that.

    And good luck.
  • The email I got sent said I could only apply once again and if that was unsuccessful no future applications would be received.

Thanks Poppie......I am also hot on SPG so hopefully that won't cause too much of a problem. I applied well over a week ago, so I might email again and see what's going on.

I'm under no illusions about quick fix money - just wondered if there was an average I might aim for.

    Thanks again.

I applied last week and was unsuccessful, was gutted, thought my answers and SPG were fine....having read through again, the SPG was good, but the answers not so!

I know it says that only 1 application per 6 months and then afte r2, you can't apply again, is this true as I have heard other people applying numerous times?
  • I've been AQA-ing for about a month now and I average about £6 an hour. At the start I was really slow (about £3 an hour), but you get the hang of it really quickly and learn how to answer questions you previously would have had trouble with. Be accurate - in content and SPG, be succinct, and add value with extra info.
