Hi all:hello:
A couple of minths ago I can remember reading a lovely thread about the different things that people do to keep warm and keep their energy bills down, there were some brilliant ideas (although one or two were a little 'eccentric'). Some of them needed a little forward planning so thought I might dig the thread out now that I am on maternity leave before sprog comes along so I'm ready for whatever winter throws at me!. I am sure that the thread was on the OS board but I have searched all index and can't find it anywhere
. It was a long thread with some really interesting stuff in it so if anyone can remember it please let me know,
Thanks
Jess

Hi Pink!
Thank you! the avoiding using Gas and Electricity one looks familiar so I think it was that one, the preparing for winter one looks just as good though so I think I might be spending a lot of my evening reading :j.
Thanks ever so much,

Judging by the 40% increases forecast for energy bills, it looks like we all need to read these!

Think I might just have a little re-read of those threads myself.
I'm experimenting with what I can do and have bought a few of those solar-powered garden lights. Idea being - I leave them in the garden (well - back yard!;) ) to charge up in daytime and then place them round the house in the evening and use, as far as possible, instead of switching on the electric light. Now - lets see if that works. I anticipate needing to switch on electric lighting where stronger lighting is required (eg reading or computer use) - but think this could be adequate for other purposes.
These solar lights are still very much in the early stages of development at present as far as I can see - as there is no on/off switch at present - so they will just stay lit for hours when I dont need them on. So this is very much prototype type thinking at present. Oh well...will give it a go!0 -
Sounds like a good idea- do the lights get brighter the more sunlight they store iyswim? (am really not very technically minded so this may well be a silly question
) 0 -
You need a Sun Jar. They do have a little over-ride switch inside the lid.The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.
