Fresh Fruit And Veg

Every time I go into my local supermarket I feel I'm been screwed at the fruit and veg counter. How so?

Well over the past year or so all the supermarkets that I've visited seem to have removed their weighing scales from the shopping isle, if you buy 4 items of something at 3.25p a 2.56Kg how are you suppose to work out what it's going to cost you: maybe it weighs 1.24kg or 1.3kg or 0.95 the trouble is of course you don't know and of course even if you did you the exact weight how can you be reasonably expected to calculate what the cost is going to be.

This seems sharp practice to me and I'm surprised weights and measures allow us to be treated in that way. I for one want to know what an item is going to coast me before I bring it to the checkout.

Any views
ps this is the situation in Northern Ireland don't know what it's like in other parts.

Best bet is not to buy at supermarkets - try markets or indian/chinese fruit/veg shops for value or Lidl/Aldi who do them for half price fairly regularly.

Supermarkets usually show a price per kilo so you can compare that way. Also how about using mysupermarket.com that compares prices from the big four?

I do buy in markets, Lidli and my local fruit shop.

My complaint is not so much about the price but the fact that I don't know the price before the till operator scans the item. I

I'm surprised that this practice is not illegal as the customer has no idea what the price is until they get to the checkout - Martin have you anything to say on the topic.
