But my nappies will not still be in the ground when my kids' grandchildren have children.

And they must add to the cost of manufacture and transportation of disposables.

They wont be, modern technology has come along way.

Why cant you greenies get it into your heads that just because somethings called 'disposable' doesn't mean they are bad for the enviornment.

There is NOTHING to choose between both types, they both have there plus's and negative's, They equal out...

Depends on how you look at it. For a disposable nappy someone in China, or other country makes the nappy, using a lot of resources. Then a ship carries it half way round the world, a truck takes it to the importers, another truck then takes it to the wholesalers, then another truck takes it to the shop and a car takes it home. Some kid sh*ts in it and a truck takes it away again.

This journey is repeated many times if you use disposable nappies, but only once if you use reusables.

I doubt it, you may use electricity, water and detergent to wash reusable nappies, but this will be offset by what is used to manufacture new disposables.

What you have left is the cost of transporting the nappies, and reusables ones will win that every time.

I am not a 'greenie' if i do anything to 'help the environment' it is largely incidental. i recycle to save room in my dustbin. What is my prior concern is does it save ME money and make my life easier.

When did disposable nappies start to rot away then???

I feel sorry for the misguided woman i saw in a large store once, choosing a buggy on the basis that there was 'plenty of room to fit packs of nappies underneath' i will not have that worry, or ever have to nip out late at night because I have run out of nappies!

Last time I checked it was an offence to bury human excrement in a landfill site yet councils continue to do so.

I totally agree with you about the nappies, but I see this forum as a means of discussing the relative merits of green and money saving methods.

Not all green ideas are actually green and some don't actually save you money.

It would be a boring place if we all supported every idea and just sat posting "Oh, that's a good idea" all the time.
