Is this a scam??

Options
Hello all,

After lurking for quite a while (I'm still getting the courage up to post on the DFW board!) I thought I'd come on here and test the waters with a job offer that I've had.

I replied to an advert in the paper about admin work @ £9.50 p/h. Too good to be true, I thougt. I sent an email and yesterday (4weeks later) I got a text asking to call a local rate number and quote a reference. So, I called the number, had a 45 minute hold and then spoke to a man (who didn't even ask my name!) who said that they liked my CV and they would like me to go and register on the following website http://www.!!!!!!!!!!!!!/greencomputerservices/

He said that this was a temporary website as the main website was down (Which started alarm bells ringing!) Then he said that I had to read through all the info and input my address and email on the last page. He then said that if all the positions had been taken in my area, it would then show the option to work from home (Queue red flashing light in my head going Wooooooo Woooooo Woooooo!)

I visited the website, and there is no mention about working in an office, it's all about working from home. I'm 99.999999% sure it is a scam (There's still a tiny glimmer in me that hope's it's not!) and hopefully I've managed to let you all know in the proper way!!

Please be gentle!!

    The link doesn't work.

It is almost definitely a scam. They've already had your deposit from your 45 minute wait on the phone. Was the number local rate or 0845?

I'm afraid it sounds very dodgy. Besides, unless you're in London, I find it very difficult to believe you get get 9.50 ph for admin work through a little ad in the paper.

Please read this before you go any further with this 'job'

The below is from the gumtree link.....

Has anyone applied for and had a reply from the Data Input Clerks jobs advertised on here? The email address has "green computer" in it? [/quote]
I can't tell if its genuine or not?

Well, likewise. I applied around the same time and received a text message on Monday which i immediately responded to. I was given an email address and instructed on what to do. The web page is not dissimilar to the ones i had seen earlier in the year, and yes i was a bit anxious about applying. If you search the web for homeworkers you will come across a host of these sites, most of them accusing the other of being a scam! What i find dubious is that all them want you to send them 25 pounds icon_twisted.gif They did have a company number which you can run a check on with Company House to find out who owns the company. Alternatively - send them 25 pounds and wait and see what they send you and if you have to work you're balls off for the salaries they say you can earn icon_biggrin.gif
I'll have some cheese please, bob.

It's a scam. I answered a similar ad shown on a very well known, legitimate recruitment site a few months ago. I didn't have to hold with the phone call but I was told the exact same thing about "if all the jobs in your area have gone....." It was basically a pyramid scheme where they wanted me to send them £25. I reported them to the recuitment agency and the ad was removed.

  • If you have to ask whether it's a scam, it usually is.

Im not being harsh! It's just something that I use as a guide, but please post on DFW, they are a lovely bunch.
