Though id say hello as a newbie and tell you my story

Hi. Im new to the forum but been reading for a last few days, thought id register.

I havent declared bankruptcy yet, im just in the middle of filling out the forms on the insolvency website to print off and im just trying to save a bit each month to pay for the actual court fee. Ive got about £20,000 of debt and im only 23. Stupid me fell into debt during uni and got worse and worse and now out of control. Ive got a steady job but dont earn much and doesnt leave me much out going and ive just had enough.

Ive got a great girlfriend who ive been with for 4months and i dont want to have this debt hanging over me, weve discussed the future and i could be debt free by time im 25 so i think now the time is to get things sorted.

I do have a car though which i need for my work but im hoping the OR will let me keep this if can prove I need it.

I rent my home so should be ok, ive been told my job is safe as ive enquired at HR so im just trying to save the pennies now.

Anyway, thats me. :)

    Hi paddyuk and welcome :)

If you need to ask anything at all then please do fire away. We're a very friendly bunch here and as the wise tigerfeet says "the only stupid question is the unasked one" :D

Have you taken professional advice from one of the free debt charities? This is imperitive - the judge can refuse your application if you haven't.

You mention a lot of your debt was incurred while you were at uni - are these student loans? Because they're not covered in BR, did you know? :(

Good luck on your journey :)

my student loan is taken out my pay, i know i cant include it in my BR. I wish i could. No i just got silly and then i put all my debt into a DMP but cancelled beginning of the year as i was struggling, ive not made many payments since to creditors either so i think the OR might put a BRO on me :(

    Probably not paddy :)

BROs are for people who've been reckless and/or dishonest. IE. taken out recent credit when they knew they were insolvent..... debts run up due to gambling or reckless spending (booking a round the world holiday on a CC the month before BR), that sort of thing :)

If being silly with money was reason to have a BRO then we'd all have one :p I read on here SO many people are worried about having one imposed, but I've yet to actually hear of anyone getting one. Saying that though, I'm almost 100% positive my H will have the dubious 'honour' of being the first person to get one that I know of.

I need some advice, this is my story,
I have got unsecured debts for about £28000,secured debts of about £27000 and i owe£77500 on my mortgage.About 70% of debts are due to gambling. And the house is worth about £95000.

I told my partner how much trouble i had got myself into, she was not a happy bunny, well anyhow we have decided to separate.

The mortgage is in joint names and so is the secured loan, now for the questions
1 what would happen if we sold the house to the secured loan, would that still stay in both our names or could i get it in my name, because i dont want her paying for my mistakes?

2 would i be better going BR

    any advice please
