Wednesday 18/06/08 What small dfw things have you done today???

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free.
Examples could be charging your phone up at work instead of at home to save your electricity, hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important.
Today i will:
Hope everyone has a good day, Cleosmum and jak :grouphug: hope you are both feeling better today, take care.
Glad the exam went well Andan

Morning All:hello:
Well it is a miserable day here, not just outside (how will I dry my sheets?) but today is my birthday and rather a lot of people have forgotten (I don't actually mind, I'm not really big on birthdays, but it is embarrassing when they realise
)
But worse, the cat has been damaged in a fight, I was at the vets a couple of hours last night, and I'm due to take him in for a "procedure" in 20 mins. It will cost over £300:eek: . I feel like saying to the vet "he's a 15 yr old stray, how much to have him put down?". But the reality is that for 15 years he's been a member of the family, it seems mean to have him put down when, apart from this bite he's very healthy.
Apart from a big bill, here are my (saving pennies) things for today:
Actually nothing. I can't walk to work, as I have to go to the vets.
I can't take in my lunch, as I told them it was my birthday (they forgot last year) so we're having takeaway. The sheets are being done HOT, and I had a celebratory tea bag rather than using free loose tea this morning
The good news is, my parents have given me a big birthday cheque, so I will have the money for the vet, even though I'd intended to pay off a card
Sorry for the self pitying rant

Well I brought my lunch to work again today - homemade bread and tuna sandwhiches, thats about as dfw as it will get today
In Jan 2007 I had a debt of £27,896.00 :eek:In October 2011 I paid it off and owned £0.00 - Kinda proud of this!:T0 -
Hello.
I am new to all this money saving forum, i spent all day yesterday reading about all of the DFW and i have decided, now is the time to start!
Although i have been trying to save money, its just not working.
Yesterday i went shopping (after reading the WHOLE of this website) and i didnt buy anything! i picked up alot of things, then thought "do i really need them???" so put them back!
Today, i got a lift into work as my car was at work from last night, (although its still saving me petrol)
I made Pasta, potato and salad for lunch - so i wont need to go out and buy lunch and get distracted and go into the shopping centre!
I do need to get petrol on the way home, but have done some research and have found a cheaper Petrol station than my normal one.
So i think im slowly getting there in my way of thinking! SAVE SAVE SAVE!
I hope to get some good tips from here on how to save!
P.S. yes its chucking it down with rain here too
but im not letting that get me down!) Total Debt : £6000 - Pad off :£1500 - Yet to pay : £4500
Currently have £600 in my savings
need to get it up!0 -

Morning all!
Right... good so far today- Have let OH borrow my bike today to save him buying a travelcard
- Have received a £5 luncheon voucher for riding my bike during cycle week (not sure how they work - do I get change? I never spend £5 on lunch these days
) - Have had a thank you email for writing a pub quiz for someone at work and they are sending me M&S vouchers :T how sweet is that?
- have brought in lunch and still not drinking pepsi - this is my third day
- checked internet banking - nothing unplanned
- checked mystery shops and pigsback - nothing yet
Cheers all

Olive oyl, its your birthday so you can spend it how you want to, however i would much raher you spent it with a glass of wine in your hand and make those people pay for forgettting. However i do know how you feel, my fella forgot my birthday last year and i spent all day waiting for him to remember, it was my worst birthday every!
Welcome to the boards puppychick, nice to have you hear and good luck with becoming dfw.
Hey to everyone else, who are just as important. I am posting early today as i am not very well and so am home off work(not that they were very impressed). Wont be doing many dfw things as don't feel up to it, or rather i want to but my body keeps arguing with me!
-Have two mystery shops to do later, there in only in town so i will still do them
-Have looked on ebay for more beauty uniforms
-Will check on ebay for how much i can get for my phone, i got a contract phone but i can't stand the phone, infact i spent two hours last night trying to put the software on my computer and upload a photo from my phone for a mystery shop job but it just wouldn't do. Even though i emailed the company they have removed the job from my account and now i wont get paid. So have figured enough is enough, i will sell the phone and get a cheaper easier to use phone. Its a samsung g600 so hoping i may get a bit for it.
-Will check out online banking
-Will write up mystery shopping reports
-I have accepted two more mystery shoppping jobs
-I'll continue looking for more
-I will work through emails
-I will do any surveys
-Cook meals from storecupboard
-Send train tickets back to mystery shopping company
-Phone people back to confirm attendence at diploma interviews
-Work on gift vouchers
-Check final details on leaflets
-Check on website for business advice
-Write down everything i still need to sort for business
-Look at messages i have received back regarding voluntary work and look at what the next step is
-Look for another job
-Finish off job application form and post it
-Start and complete other job application form
Think thats it for me today, not many where i actually have to move around, which is how i start feeling worse, so a nice quiet day for me.:j Live on £4500, £2531/£4500:T 101 in 1001 (52/101):j:beer::j

Afternoon all,
Happy birthday OliveOyl!
Today I have / will;
- brought my lunch in from home (thought still bought diet coke - v naughty)
- got a job interview :j :T I'm very happy about it (as you can probably tell!). A friend of mine saidf there was a project administrator job at her workplace. It sounds ideal for me and i am really ready for a change. She told her boss about me, he said I sounded good. I gave him a ring today, we had a good chat and he said i have the skills etc they are looking for :-) I am going in to meet him for a chat next Thursday, and am very hopeful. It would mean a bit more money too (though the pension scheme isn't as good).
Its all looking up!

:j :j :j :j The job is in halifax (where I live) which would mean i'd have a couple of extra hours a day as i currently work in Leeds. Woo hoo!
have a good day everyone,

Today I have had a re-new lightbulb moment after listing all my debts (yuk - see my diary for full details) I've set myself a challance of clearing just over 10k worth by this time next year- gonna be hard work but hopefully do-able.
Having it down in front of me gives me something to work towards.
Have to buy a sandwich today as didnt have time to make one for work. :-(
Thats it for today but a really positive start to a good challenge for me.Focusing on clearing the credit cards in 2018 :T0
