Hi all i would just like to say that for the last few months i had a M/R fastbake B/M but for some reason it stopped working so it went back and after reading about panni b/m i thought id give it a go but iv tried twice to make a breadloaf and both times its failed it comes out not risen and stodgy. I have got the SD-254 model and wondered if anyone else has this model. All the recipies say butter but i used to use sunflower oil in my old machine would it matter if i did it the same. sorry for long post but its doin my ed in.

I've got the SD255 and haven't had a problem. I use olive oil instead of butter/margarine, so wouldn't think this would be causing your loaf to fail.
I read on here that some people were having trouble with the flour they were using due to the weather last year - the wheat wasn't as strong, maybe. Have you tried different flour? Is your yeast fresh - sounds like it isn't doing its job very well. I've had a couple of spongy loaves and have put it down to stale yeast. Bought a new packet and loaves have been fine. I use Dove's easyblend yeast.
If all else fails, it could be that you have a duff machine - I guess it can happen even with Panasonic!

I've had perfect loaves each time from my SD254 since switching flour. What flour are you using? I had duff loaves when using Hovis flour. Called the Panny helpline and they explained about some wheat crop problems and some flour produces had been affected, particularly Hovis. I switched to Waitrose Organic and wow - what a difference
You are using STRONG flour aren't you? Another reason for your problem is too much water. I always use 20ml less than the book states.
oh, I also use oil - never butter. Just a splash of vegetable or olive oil.0 -

not that I'm blaming you or anything
but it's very unusual for a Panny not to produce a good loaf - it's normally just a small adjustment somewhere which will make the difference 0
