Joint birthday party for 5 year olds - 2 quick questions

Hi,

My daughter has been invited to a party in July. Both boys (not brothers) have decided to hold one party as they were both born on the same day. My question is do I buy two presents? and does anyone have any ideas about what I could get? I didn't want to spend to much money so any thoughts would be great.

Many thanks.

My daughter and a friend had a joint 5th birthday party and I certainly didn't expect presents from everyone that was invited so I wouldn't worry about only getting one present if that is what you want to do. Maybe if you feel really uncomfortable only taking one present why not wrap up a packet of felt tips and cheap colouring book.
Arts and crafts items always go down well or something like lego or a book.
  • To be honest I would probably buy both boys a present. After all can you imagine being 5 and having to share one present with someone? I definately wouldn't spend much though....probably about £5 each.

It all works out good in the end.
If it's not good, it's not the end!

Thanks for the tips. I don't mind buying a present each at all. I just wanted some ideas on what to get and how much I should spend. I usually spend £10-£12 on presents for one but for two kiddies at the same time would have been to much when I still have to get wrapping paper and a card.

My son has been to 2 joint parties this month with another in a few weeks

I always buy gifts from Home Bargains. They have fabulous toys there and i normally pay about £3.99 for a gift that looks much more expensive. I then buy the cards from there too (29p each) and a set of 3 gift bags for 99p from the Pound Shop.

In answer to your question, yes i would buy 2 gifts. With boys aged 5 anything to do with superheroes, spongebob, sonic the hedghog etc always go down well as well as craft gifts too.

Hope your daughter enjoys the party

I agree with bravobeasties suggestions for toys ( I got a 5yr old boy myself). Homebargins got some good stuff that looks expensive but are fairly cheap. If you haven't got Homebargins near where you live try Tescos. They got some pretty cool cheap toys too...
My boy also likes pens, crayons, craft stuff, stickers etc.. and that you can pick up for around a pound in Tesco as well and make a little "craft hamper" out of.
Most people bought him cars for his birthday... and we got 3 big boxes full of cars already so it might be nice to think of something different.

greenpixey, I think when it comes to boys one just assumes they want cars....for girls stores definitely have lots more variety. My mother lives in Wales and has a Home Bargains 2 minutes from her house.....I can never resist going for a look around. They have some really great bargains but if we had one in Cambridgeshire I would be broke. Thanks for the tip.

How about books? The Book People always have some great offers - they often sell sets that you can split between people and can get sometimes get discount codes on MSE too!

My son was 4 this year and we were inundated with cars and superhero toys, was lovely to have some other things like craft stuff and books.

Boots.com have some great offers on toys - craft and science things, postage is quite high (free is you spend £40 I think) but if you can get your pressie cheaper then that might be ok?

we had a joint party for my daughter and her best friend from school, we didn't expect presents from everyone who came, they both got presents from some friends and one or other from other friends if that makes sense!! when we counted up the presents they both had 17 presents but not all from the same people.

We went to a joint sister party my dd was friends with the younger one, for the older one we bought high school musical stickers that go with the sticker book and a card as this is what she was mad on at the time.
Would love to be a "Yummy Mummy" but more a "Slummy Mummy"!!:rotfl: :rotfl:

I would say if you know both children buy for both, but if you only know one of them only buy for that one. We went to a party recently for 3 boys from LO's creche & we bought the same for all 3. They also had individual friends who only bought for the person they knew.
