Vanish stain remover

Does anyone know if there is a cheaper alternative to Vanish that does the same job? I need to buy some more but begrudge paying so much for a stain remover....

On another note - I had an Indian this weekend and stained my favourite jeans... Will a scoop of Vanish get this stain off? I've already tried the Vanish spray and stardrops and it's still there.... :( Any ideas would be gratefully received!

Thanks in advance!

I use the bars of vanish, like a bar of soap that you rub into the stain.

That seems to work on most things, and lasts ages so is very economical. You just have to remember to treat the stains before you put them into the machine.

I used to use Vanish spray stain remover, but started to replace it with plain laundry soap. It's not quite as nice, but it does the job and is much cheaper. I think I got it in the CoOp, 2 bars for about 90p

Stain Devils used to do one for curry stains, but I'm not sure of the price. According to my Kim & Aggie book ;) you can try soaking stubborn curry stains in a solution of hydrogen peroxide bleach, or a strong solution of bio detergent.

I buy one called Adritt from Lidl which does a good job though I've started using borax now.

Re the curry stain, if it's turmeric that has dyed it, you'll be hard pushed to get it out but I would try making a vanish pastes and rubbing it in, then washi it at 60 degrees if poss.

Hi there! I have a similar problem i was hoping someone might be able to help me with - i have a white top which (i think) has a coffee stain on it - i bought the vanish stick and have treated it about 5 times before putting in the washing machine at 40 degrees - it still is there! Its only a small patch but right at the front - was thinking of resorting to bleach- is this effective or does anyone have any tips?

    Thanks;)

I used glycerine to get curry stains off a cream carpet. I let the glycerine soak in and then blotted. It was a very long time ago but I think it took a couple of goes. I then washed the glycerine out with warm detergent - not soaking the carpet though as it was our pride and joy, pre children, cream 80% wool. All that I can think now is why on earth did we buy cream!

Oh and I think it was on one of the threads here that someone said Napisan was the same as Vanish but much cheaper. I'm not in the UK so can't check that one out.

Anyway good luck with the stain removal

I quite like fairy pre-treatment soap bar. Sorry, can't remember how much it cost but it was cheaper than vanish and it has 2 bars in the packet. Always manages to get the various stains out my childrens clothes. As someone else said tho, once it has been washed in, its a sod to get off! if its a white top perhaps a bit of milton or bleach?
