Gluten Free & Dairy Free Receipes for little boy?

My friend's little boy cannot have gluten or dairy!! She is a single mum and is really struggling to feed him and keep within the guidelines of what he can/and can't have.

I would love to pass some receipes onto her that might help. Does anyone have any receipes for savoury or sweet meals?

Thanks so much

My daughter is trying to be wheat/dairy free which isnt strictly the same. But we have discovered spelt flour, and make bread from it. My sister in laws mother is a coeliac and she can have it as well, so if I make pastry I use the flour. I always make my pastry with butter, so I guess it would be trial and error to find a substitute. Or you could try PURE which is dairy free. She swaps between oatmilk and soya, for different proteins. Generally, having a healthy diet. Lots of veg and fruit. You could make brownies with 72% cocoa choc, cornflour and PURE I dont have the recipe with me. They are lovely and completely wheat/dairy free. Musks make gluten free sausages, which are nice

My niece is a diagnosed coeliac so cannot have any wheat/gluten.
My sister is able to get special bread and cake mixes on prescription and these prescriptions are free.
If it is a genuine medical condition that means they can't have gluten then her GP should advise her she can get these on free prescription.

Also go to www.coeliac.co.uk which is a charity. The boy should join (if he is a coeliac) as they are incredibly helpful as is the website

    Hi guys,

I'm a coeliac and I don't get anything on prescription as it's far too expensive. I have to pay 90 pounds every 6 months as I'm 25. I buy Dove Flour and make everything myself. To be honest I haven't tried making pastry but I make bread cakes. For evening meals the only thing I may buy is gluten free spaghetti as my husband and I just eat meat and two veg. I know it sounds boring but you can do quite a lot. The coeliac website is brilliant for recipes especially kids food, I'd definitely try that. If you join the charity you'll receive a book which list products from Supermarkets and main brands which is really useful for shopping.

  • Hi, I sympathise as I tried to cut things out to see what was disagreeing with me.
I find it easier to pick up wheat / gluten free recipes, then you can swap any dairy in it for vegan substitute. I think there's a vegan version of everything nowadays - "pure" margarine (sp??) is nice, and sweetened soya milk is nice once you're used to the taste. And I think it's cheaper than real milk at the minute!
Maybe look on green/ethical board for vegan recipes?

Soya milk is quite cheap at the moment, however I still can't get used to it on cereal. So I just don't have cereal these days.

Lots of supermarkets are now stocking things like gluten/lactose/cholestoral free ice-cream. I think a dairy free and/or wheat free diet is more popular than ever, even where there is no medical reasons for doing so.
