case of wrong person

for ages ive been hassled by british gas and debt collection agencies writing to my rented home addess claiming i owe a measly amount £34.98 ive never had a british gas account and they have got the wrong person!!!

ive written once or twice before stating i am not this person and to stop hassling me and they wrote back saying this name was registered at this address.

its obviously someone else with the same initial and last name as me, they have not sent any proof of a british gas account with the full name on, im sure i asked them last time to provide something.

what should i do now?

i was going to send them letter saying unless they stop hassling me i will take up legal action (even though i wouldnt as i dont have a lawyer)

Could you ask them for a signed copy of the original agreement to supply you with energy? It won't be your name on there.

Complain to them and you should get a letter stating you dont have an account etc - I was getting chased for same thing, and got a letter stating they had wrong address for an account - they kept sending out letters so I kept sending them back with copies of my letter and it seems to have stopped now!
