Credit rating help!!!!!!

Hi guys, 1st time user so sorry if wrong part of the site.
I need your experiance and advice.
I have just recieved my credit report and see that I need to improve my score dramaticly and part of that is down to the fact that my mortage (C&G) that I had was constantly in areaers. Now i know i was stupid but i hid the letters and never did anything about it untill i was threatened with reposession. I've now sold the flat (nov 07) and have absolutly no debts but this is obviously on my file for 6 years!!!!!!!!!!!
Can anyone advise me on any way of getting this changed (after alll they now have all there money back) or ways in which to improve my score.
I've grown up a lot and want a place with my lovely (and supportive) girlfriend but am finding this impossible
Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi

The only thing i can suggest to check is is the debt marked as "settled". If it is thats a great thing.

To be honest i wouldnt worry too much about your credit score as such. If you have no other debts, and you keep up payments on anything you have now it will help itself in time.

unfortunaetely the defaults (if you have them) will stay on your file even after the debts are settled (for the 6 years).

If you are on the electorial register I have heard that can help.

Unfortunately I am in the same boat. Things shown as "default" nearly 3/4 years ago, but settled, its a shame, but i suppose its a learning curve!

    Good luck

I'm in the same boat too! I've paid off nearly all my debts and haven't had a missed payment for 3 years but credit is still shot to bits! It's a waiting game. I guess if they made it easy there wouldn't be much incentive to stay on the straight and narrow. That said....It's an absolute G*T when you are trying to sort yourself out.
My credit report is slowly improving- I've put myself on the electrol roll, also never pay anything late. Am cancelling unused credit except 1 credit card and paying my loan back early- apparently even if you only pay it back early by 1 month it still shows as early repayment which is good.
My bank also said that you need to minimise bank charges to showm you can manage your money well and that improves your internal credit score which in turnmeans you'll be offered better interest rates if you borrow from them (This is Lloys but I imagine pretty standard.)
If you need to rebuild your rating from nothing (virtually) you can get a prepay credit card that shows as a loan for credit rating purposes. There is an article on here somewhere, sorry can't do links.

    Hope that helps?
