I don't think the article goes far enough

Much of the 'demand' in the housing market was down to speculative investment.
Take that away, as has in the main happened, and there's plenty of supply .. leading to falling prices.--
Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.0
