Euro-dollars

Hi, I work abroad and travel home through Schiphol airport, it has been my custom to buy a bottle or two on the way home. With the current strength of the euro v's pound this isn't as attractive as before.
My query is would it be worthwhile getting dollars and paying with them?
The £ - $ is still quite good. I tried to fathom it out but my maths isn't that good:confused: .

  • OK, here goes:

    Taking figures from https://www.xe.com

    £1= €1.26

    $1= €0.64

    £1=£1.96

    $1= £0.50

So using these figures (simplified to 2 decimal points). If you changed £10 into dollars, you would get $19.60. If you changed $19.60 into Euros you would then get €12.54. If you converted Stirling straight to Euros you would get £10 = £12.60.

This is of course before any exchange charges.

There is no point as all 3 currencies are tied together (trigged)

The GBP -> USD -> EUR rate will be the same as GBP -> EUR assuming no charges or rounding errors.

In reality the fx rate will be loaded at each stage making you slightly worse off.
