Fenugreek - Curry Queeeen!

Hello,
The only fenugreek I can get hold of is the seeds. I'm guessing I have to crush them or grind them for Curry Queen's recipe (the bhuna I think it was)?
I don't have a pestle and mortar (haven't found a reasonably priced one yet) so maybe I'll have to improvise with a rolling pin....

I think so badgergal. I definitely used ground at the weekend. Have you got a coffee grinder or a grinder setting on a food processer you could use??I'd rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are; because a could-be is a maybe who is reaching for a star. I'd rather be a has-been than a might-have-been, by far; for a might have-been has never been, but a has was once an are – Milton Berle0

What an ingenious idea!! Would never have thought of thatI'd rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are; because a could-be is a maybe who is reaching for a star. It is isn't it? I don't have any kind of coffee grinder etc and my pepper mill is currently filled with, well, pepper, but I'm actually considering getting a cheap pepper mill just for the fenugreek to live in, it would be very handy and I could just do as much as I needed every time. Hmm.0

A heavy saucepan and the end of a rolling pin also makes a good substitute pestle and mortar0

Got my pestle and mortar from Ikea. Think it was about a fiver. Big and heavy enough for doing spices etc.Humans only use around forty percent of their brains capacity. Imagine what we could achieve if we used the other seventy percent!0

do you have a Halal shop near you? if so, you should be able to get ground fenugreek there
& my son told me TK Max have mortar & pestles at a good price just now. must be cheap, he's going to buy a set
EDIT .. haven't seen the recipe in question, but it's just dawned on me that there are 4 forms of Fenugreek (that I know of) that are used in Indian/Pakistani cooking ... the whole seed, ground seed, fresh leaves (methi) & the dried leaves .... not sure how interchangeable they are (apart from grinding the whole seeds, & they're pretty hard) but you should be able to buy them all at the aforementioned Halal shop0 -
Methinks a trip to Ikea is in order. Their kitchen stuff is good quality and good value in my experience (says she who just sliced her thumb open on one of their ohsosharp kitchen knives).
I need to use these seeds now I've got 'em but will bear the halal shops in mind for the future!0
