Weekend Something to Do

Hello All,
I have a big problem at the moment, I am 20yrs old and live with my 21yr old girlfriend. She is the problem. As great as she is, she hates staying in at the weekends, we both have stressful(ish) jobs and I love spending my sundays particularly doing absolutely nothing. We made a deal to keep her happy that we would do things together on a saturday which i dont mind as i get to see her and spend time with her which is rare to get during the week.
Only problem is, where you guys/gals come in, that we struggle to come up with things to do that cost very little or nothing. I would be happy to take a few cheap bits up to the local park (southampton common) for a picnic however she suffers from horrific hayfever and the prescribed drugs are not powerful enough at the moment.
we seem to end up going out for lunch at 30-40 a time or going to the cinema at 15 a time etc etc.
I am sure i'm not the only on who struggles to keep coming up with cheap weekend idea's?!
suggestions welcomed with open arms!

do you have interest in history etc-you could join the National trust -via quidco and see some lovely places .Or free entry museums if in your area/art galleries-if you like that sort of thing!:j this money saving is such fun:T0

would suggest walking in the New Forest but the hayfever might be an issue! How about going to Winchester or Salisbury for a wander round - museums and cathedrals etc.
There's a fairly cheap noodle bar in Southampton (behind Primark area) which is tiny but you can get a big plate of chinese food for a few quid if you want to do lunch cheaply.
You could go 10 pin bowling - not sure how much that is these days though but it can't be that much.
How about signing up as a mystery shopper - you could go shopping and get paid!
Alternatively, if you're in the Southampton area my garden desparately needs weeding!0 -
walk down the beach, fishing maybe? you could have a picnic down the beach which might be better for the hayfever. Some places are free to visit with the english heritage fort nelson but thats in pompey and i'm sure there are others on the website southampton side.0

if you go to the cinema often, then get a cineworld unlimited card as that works out cheaper. look for deals on restaurants (e.g. the wagamama BOGOF offer).
why does she hate staying in? is there a DIY/home improvement/craft project you could get started with her? would a home cooked meal with a bottle of wine not do her? any sports you might want to do together?:happyhear0 -
How about getting a couple of push bikes (from freecycle!) & going for a ride together.
I agree with the previous post asking about why she does not like staying in. Have you asked her what she would like to do that would no cost a lot?
As a family (& we have 2 children with us) we go walking & bike rides. We often take our own food with us. I have bought lots of food stuff where there are days out vouchers (1 free with a full paying adult - free can be another adult). There are adverts on at the moment for a free swim when you buy....& I can't remember what it is! Just look around & oyu will find lots!

loving everyone's comments,
reason she likes to go out is the typical - its sunny, its warm, i want a tan!
bit old for my ag but i think the new forest will be a great place to go bar her hayfever which is pretty abismal.
appreciate all the ideas though and i think that this could be a good little thread for others to take advantage of as well.
thanks again!
oh...clairol73, that noodle ba, is it the little red one? if so, then i love it and it has served me well on many a night out!Lightbulb Moment January 2008Committed Lightbulb Moment June 2008!Total Debt January 2008 - £12,000 June 2008 - [strike]£11465[/strike], July 08 £9942:beer:0 -
Thanks for this post Siross.
It's just what I was thinking of last week. I have the same problem every week when my OH wants to do things. I'm happy sitting in for the day and pottering round. Apart from walking or biking, it's really hard to think of things to do. We've now near enough gutted the garden so will be stuck again soon!
Any more genius ideas are very welcome!
Thanks to all competition posters :T0 -
£30-40 for a meal? Nuts. Lots of pubs have BOGOFs (Weatherspoons) and carveries can be cheaper too (especially if they've got the option not to have any meat).

well she won't get a tan sitting in a restaurant!!
i guess i'm someone who is quite happy pottering/faffing around at home..... i like saving up for a weekend away rather than spending something every weekend. any chance you could try that approach with her?!:happyhear0 -
