Thanks to the help and advice from this board during the last 24 month (and CCCS) we are since September last year debt free. :j
We initially had to change our bank to Nationwide and accept a cash card. But we have tried twice since Sept last year to ask for a Debit Card but been declined. The building society cant tell us why and I cant find a reason why looking at our Experian report (I'm gonna call them up and see if they can clarify it for me).
Is it worth trying to move over to a different bank now?
I don't want an overdraft limit, just a debit card that I can use in the shop and perhaps over the internet. Also be able to sell on Ebay again would make a difference.
I have contemplated applying for a Prepaid credit card but it is not really what we want or need.
Any suggestions?

I was with Nationwide for 9 years before they would give me a debit card!LOL
Not that I am suggesting you wait that long,by any means, but Nationwide,IMO are very slow to let their customers have anything new!
My husband and I have tried to get a joint account with them, and, even though I have been a customer for a VERY long time, they refused us.
We checked our credit reports, but what Nationwide says, goes I'm afraid.
It may be worth you trying with a different place now that your debts are paid and your credit rating is improved
Sorry I couldnt be more help

I was with the Nationwide for 7 years and although I asked for a Debit Card every year I was constantly turned down ( poor credit history no doubt ) and eventually gave up asking and moved.
I applied for a got a Natwest Step account complete with SOLO card. Alright, I know the SOLO card isn't the best but it's better than no card at all. I have used it online, at the garage and supermarkets etc. without any problems.
Who knows, one day I may get a grown up card but until then I'm happy enough. Also, got offered a Cooperative account but didn't take it up so at least if there's hope for me there must be hope for everybody!0 -
Hi
I would apply to the co-op as their basic account gives you a visa electron card. They have great customer service and online banking.0 -
Firstly congrats at getting debt free! That is an amazing achievement. As for your bank if yours doesn't want the business I'd just go elsewhere. I wouldn't have thought you would have a problem now. Classworthy's Natwest Step Account sounds like an option, good luck

Congratulations for being debt free.
I would try somewhere else we moved from Nationwide years ago as they weren't very flexible with these sorts of things.
I remember once years ago they wouldn't even let me pay a cheque in to my OH account even though it was made payable to him, apparently they could only accept deposits from him :eek:Proud to be dealing with my debts - DFW No: 712
