3 for 2 M&S - New Policy

Thought some of you might be interested in this new info. After a customer complaint was taken up by a national newspaper, M&S are changing their till process regarding 3 for 2 deals.
The customer complained that she had bought 2 lots of 3 for 2 items - one set of 3 was expensive and the other set of 3 was a cheaper item. When it all went through, the till took off 2 of the cheap items as the free items. "Not fair!" I hear you all cry. She kicked up a stink and got it refunded (was she a MSE regular I wonder?).
Now after investigation by this newspaper, M&S have replied that they are changing the way their till discounts:
If you put through 6 items that are 3 for 2, rather than taking off the 2 cheapest items, it will take of the last and the 3rd cheapest item. For example
£10 turkey
£10 turkey
£10 turkey (free)
50p chocolate bar
50p chocolate bar
50p chocolate bar (free).
Much better, I think you'll agree.

personally i would always have argued this (and won) cos if they refused then i would just have bought each lot of 3 in a separate transaction
They are a bit behind the times if they are only now incorporating this as "policy" 0 -
Woolworths tills used to have a similar problem but it seems to work okay now. I always keep a close eye and will go through the till doing seperate transactions if necessary.0

Sales assistant in my local woolworths is still advising me to put the transactions through seperately.0

I had a similar thing when I was getting stationery supplies for the return to school trauma. I was in Partners and had picked up a lot of 3 for 2 bits and pieces. The assistant asked if I'd mind if she put them through as several different transactions as the computer was programmed to just take off the cheapest items free and I'd save more if it was done separately.
It was a bit of a faff (I think it was eventually 4 transactions!) but I was grateful to her for pointing it out, as I'd never have thought about it.0
