Hi
I have a default notice for an old finance company debt which has been paid off in full but still appears on Equifax credit report. The finance company say its their policy to keep it on for 6 years even if paid off.
I want to get a job in banking and to do this I must not have any bad info on my credit file.
My question is when does the 6 years begin ie 6 years from the default notice date, the date paid off and the account closed or from the last date that they reported info to Equifax.
I am hoping its the date that the account was cleared and closed which was 30th September 1999 - which means it should be off now.
Any thoughts would be great - sorry if this is in the wrong place......

I can't answer your question, but I'm sure there is some information in the "Your Credit Report Explained" booklet which can be downloaded from...
http://www.experian.co.uk/consumer/index.html
Experian also have a useful FAQ section, and the link below takes you to the section on CCJ's...

I know you specifically mentioned Equifax but the policy will be the same I would have thought.0 -
Thank i will try these links:hello: :

My sincere apologies...I credited you with a CCJ and you have a "default". I'm really sorry, I misread your first post. Anyway, defaults are mentioned in the FAQ link so hopefully you'll find what you're looking for.
In the meantime, I've been browsing the Equifax site, and they don't seem to have a "guide" readily available. However, if you search for "default" I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for. The Equifax link is here...

6 Years from the DATE OF DEFAULT, at this point the original agreement has been legaly terminated and the clock starts ticking down on the 6 Years
To an extent the date of final settlement is irrelevant, however some companies chose to add this the same as they would mark to account satisfied on your files, however this wont alter the fact that 6 years from the default date the information is legally required to be removed, if they haven’t done this already then a polite reminder may be in order.
Also lodge a “notice of dispute” with Equifax, they will contact the lender on your behalf and in this case providing the default date is over 6 years ago then it should be fairly cut and dry and the data must be legally removed within 28 Days:rolleyes: It’s hard enough remembering my opinions - without remembering my reasons for them :rolleyes:0 -
