  • yeah, i have it :(
my experiences aren't too bad, because essentially i'm not scared of heights but i have trouble being up high! went to Barcelona last year and went up a very high tower-which i enjoyed but couldn't stand on the glass floor as everything goes swirly! haven't been on a fairground ride in 15 years either!
don't know how common it is, but my Mum has it also(family trait?)

Apparently I have it, as my balance is off and when I went to the GP she gave me a tablet which was supposed to be excellent - it didn't work.

I am still often unsteady - I can stand up and kind of lean.. and I have ringing in my ears at night too..

    .. it is awful :(

I went to the GP because at the time I was feeling sick with it at night.. although I have not had those symptoms since.

I read the side effects on the leaflet I got with the pills and decided I didn't want to take them.

Vertigo can be nasty! There are tablets to take - and I think just taking them once won't give them time to work!

I had a bad attack of vertigo a few years ago - got up out of bed and felt like I was very drunk and the wall/floors were at the wrong angles! I was confined to bed for a few days - had to crawl to bathroom and back and felt sick every time I moved. The tablets (and I can't remember the name for them) were the same as for seasickness and took a couple of days to kick in.

It is worth having your ears checked - they are responsible for balance and so you need to ensure there's not a problem there. However, it does appear to be something that comes and goes (and is usually with our GP attributable to 'a virus'!). You need to be careful - don't stand up too quickly etc - and don't drive until you're sure you're over it.

I had an attack of vertigo earlier in the year. It started in about Novermber/December with dizzy spells which were set of by something as simple as turning my head. Eevntually after months I went to the doctor and he game me some tablets but said it could be virus but that only last about 4 weeks (i was well over that time scale already by that point). I took the tablets but they never seemed to do anything. Eventually the dizzy spells became less and I haven't had them since (fingers crossed). It did last about 6 months though.

As to how common it is, I think it's pretty common. There are only 2 of us in my department at work and we both have it.

My OH had an attack of this 2 years ago now after a week of decorating the ceilings. Apparently tilting his head back brought it on

I have menieres disease and one of the symptoms is vertigo. The feeling of spinning is awful. Sometimes I wake up during the night and room appears to be spinning, even though I was perfectly OK when I went to bed. Funily enough mine started in pregnancy too. That was 23 years ago now  I take Stugeron when I'm really suffering. It doesn't stop the spinning but does stop the vomiting that can accompany it.

Thats wierd i just took no notice of it throughout pregnancy because you feel abit that way anyway plus it was my forth but its awful the worst bit for me is the queasy(sp) feeling plus i find if im a little more stressed than usual it hits me with a vengeance . Do you find you only get it sometimes then or is it with you all the time ?

Mine started with an ear infection - Labyrinthitis. Ive had it since 1990 on and off - more on when I have flown or travelled by boat or as a passenger in a car. Fairground rides etc also knock me for six for a while. As time has gone on the attacks are not as severe or as frequent but when they are bad I take a sea sickness pill and try not to move my head to fast

My mum and I suffer with it intermittently, mine is less frequent than my mum's. It doesn't last too long with us though.
