Chewable Vitamin C??

Hey all
I bought some chewable Vitamin C tablets (Boots own) as I want to boost my immune system a bit as I'm flying to the US on friday and I always get a cold after being on a plane.
However, I can't stand the taste of these vitamins!
Do they need to be chewed to work best? Or can I just swallow them, like normal tablets?
TIA

Well I drink a glass of orange juice a day, and eat at least 5 portions of fruit a day too already!

how about the effervescent vit c tablets? theres blackcurrant or orange. about 20 in each pack and the boots ones are cheaper than the haliborange ones. (1000mg) - any excess (say from foods too) will get weed out. it think boots still have the 3for2 offer. just fizz one tablet in a small glass of water - about 150-200ml is alright. and if you have it after your night meal it gets absorbed into body better.
plus some of us need that extra bit of vit c even if we do have our 5aday.0 -
I always swallow the chewable vit c tablets- the ones I use are easy to break in half and then swallow - although I do quite like the taste as it reminds me of sherbert.0

Vitamin C is water soluble. Once it's absorbed into the body it's half life is measured in minutes. Therefore the only moneysaving form of vitamin c to buy is one that is time release.
We must also bear in mind that the higher the daily dose the lower the percentage absorbed. 75% of 1g will be absorbed but only 50% of 1.5g and 26% of 6g/daily.
So 3 x 500mg time release tablets taken one every 8 hrs will be significanly more effective than one normal 1.5g tablet taken once daily
All the 500mg time release vit c will be absorbed and because it is made available only gradually rather than in a block it will also degrade gradually.
Only 50% of the 1.5g will be absorbed anyway (the rest will be straight down the loo) and the
750mg vit c that is absorbed will be 375g in 30mins and
187.5mg after an hour
94mg in 90mins and
45mg in 2hrs.
Don't buy or use chewable vitamin c only buy/use time release formulations. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

I've always like the chewable Basset ones (strawberry or blackcurrant flavour) and I like to think that they help me and my seemingly invincible immune system. You can get them from Boots.0

If you are going to take vitamin C supplements you may as well buy a good multivitamin and mineral - same price with the same amount of vitamin C but with lots of other added benefits from the extra nutrients present. Make sure you buy a good one - www.supplementscompared.com have rated lots of different health supplements for their quality and value for money with lots of supermarket and high street brands doing really well - see the link below:
